Lou Gordon, President of SoundWorks Inc, explains the background of his company:
“It all started with my grandfather in 1945, a civilian living in Washington DC. The Navy reached out to him about a communication problem between submarines; he then spent 24 hours with his colleagues, building a radio that worked perfectly underwater. After the war, my father and my grandfather started an electronics distribution company together in Syracuse. Around 1962, my father founded Gordon Electronics.
I started in the consumer electronics business when I was 11 years old (1975), sweeping the warehouse floors of Gordon Electronics in Syracuse NY. My brother and I would receive and unload tractor-trailers of receivers, cassette decks, TVs, VCR, speaker wire. I remember a few times where the trucks were so full that the truck driver would disconnect from the 40- or sometimes 50-foot trailers and leave them there and we would spend the entire day unloading Sony, Pioneer, Yamaha… From the warehouse, I moved to the car stereo garage and installed cassette decks, CD players, speakers, amplifiers, subwoofers into every type of vehicle imaginable: cars, motorcycles, boats, recreation vehicles, tractor-trailers…
