Prepare Your Home Theater for the 8K Revolution
New TVs offer four times the pixel density of 4K displays
There are new inventions and improvements happening constantly in the world of home electronics, and displays for your home theater are no exception. At this year’s CEDIA (Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association) expo in Denver, 8K resolution displays were some of the most talked-about items in the show.
But what exactly is 8K resolution? Is an 8K screen a worthwhile upgrade over a 4K UHD display? And what are the options if you want to buy an 8K display? These questions and more are the focus of today’s blog, and we’ll tell you everything you need to know about this potential upgrade to your Bedford, NY, home theater.

WHAT IS 8K, ANYWAY?
One major factor in determining the quality of an image on your home theater display is its resolution. Resolution refers to density of pixels (by height and length) on the display. More pixels on the screen means a denser image and less visual deterioration, though resolution is not the only factor when it comes to image quality.
Before the advent of 4K monitors and screens, a high-definition TV was one with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. The resolution in most 4K displays is 3,840 x 2,160 pixels; the “4K” part comes from the nearly 4,000 vertical pixels.
Until recently, 4K was as good as it got for household displays. But now, a few 8K TVs have hit the market. An 8K display has a resolution of 7,680 x 4,320 pixels, quadrupling the pixel density of a 4K model. That doesn’t necessarily mean an 8K screen produces an image that’s four times as good as a 4K one, but it still represents a substantial improvement.
DO YOU NEED AN 8K TV?
The problem with buying an 8K TV is the same one facing buyers of 4K displays a few years ago: A lack of content. While 4K movies and streaming content is widely available now, when the technology was new there was nothing that could take advantage of the new possibilities the technology offered. However, just like with 4K, it’s inevitable that creators will soon begin producing content that can be rendered in native 8K resolution.
So, you don’t need an 8K TV, strictly speaking, but you’ll want one if you want the latest and greatest technology. Additionally, buying an 8K display helps future-proof your existing installation, putting you ahead of the curve. If you’re looking to purchase an 8K TV, Sony, Samsung and LG all have models available for purchase.
Even though 8K displays are a relatively new invention, now’s the time to start planning your new home theater installation or upgrade. To learn more, call us today at (914) 765-0461, or you can reach us online.
